Top 10 List- September 6, 2019

Since today is National Read a Book Day, I rounded up some of my favorite books that I’ve read in the last couple of years. While I don’t have a ton of time to read while I’m in grad school, I have made a goal to read a book a month this year, and so far I’ve kept to that. Let me know any book suggestions you have in the comment section below- I’m always adding to my list!

Whenever I feel like I’m in a rut for picking new books, I like to look at Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club picks. This novel by Alice Hoffman is one of their older picks but I could not put it down and ended up finishing it in one day.

I read Laura Dave’s novel Eight Hundred Grapes a couple of years ago (which I recommend if you haven’t read it!), so when I found this book at the library walking through the shelves, I checked it out right away. It has some good twist and turns to it that keep you hooked to the end.

I love a good YA book since they’re easy to read and are generally pretty short. The Last Boy and Girl In the World had been on my list for years before I finally got around to reading it recently. I don’t know why I put it off for so long, but I would put it at the top of my list if I were you.

The Crazy Rich Asians trilogy became hugely popular last year when the movie was coming out and after reading it, I can tell why. Crazy family members, luxurious lifestyles, and some great love stories make this series worth the read. And it doesn’t hurt to watch the movie after.

Speaking of trilogies, one of my all-time favorites is the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before novels by Jenny Han. I read this series in college and was very excited when Netflix made the first book into a movie (with a sequel coming soon). If you haven’t read these, I highly recommend them, and definitely add the Netflix movie to your list.

I read Where’d You Go Bernadette three or four years ago when it was first becoming popular and I thought it was great back then. Now I want to reread the book before I see the movie that is in theaters now starring Cate Blanchett.

I first heard of Liane Moriarty when her book Big Little Lies was becoming popular, and since then I have read every book she has come out with. While you can’t go wrong with any of them, if you are looking for one similar to Big Little Lies, I recommend The Husband’s Secret.

Another author that I love to read is Jojo Moyes. Her latest novel in her series about Louisa Clark, from her Me Before You trilogy, is back and living in New York City as a personal assistant. If you liked the first two books in the series or any other Jojo Moyes books, you’ll like this one too.

Every now and then, I like a thriller to switch up my book genre. I bought this book at a resale for $3 and it ended up being a great pick. It has the same sort of feel as Gone Girl while taking place in the UK.

If you need a fun read after some dark reads, Love and Gelato should be your go-to. I already professed my love for easy YA reads where you don’t have to think much, just enjoy the book- and this one is no different. This book made me want to immediately hop a plane headed to Italy and stuff my face with gelato while exploring Florence (which happens to be one of my favorite cities). Not a bad thing in my opinion.

Do you have any books that I should add to my list?
